The Application Development Scientist Upstream Bioprocessing will play a crucial role in advancing the application development of Cellevat3d™ carriers as part of Cellevate's upstream bioprocessing solutions for gene therapy, stem cell therapy, as well as novel vaccines. You will be part of the R&D team, providing bioprocess development and application optimization expertise from lab-scale to scale-up in bioreactors. As a technical expert, you will provide guidance, training, and support to customers and collaborating partners, working closely with both sales teams and customers.

Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimize cell culture processes, viral vector production, and stem cell production application protocols in various cell culture systems, from lab-scale to large-scale, with a focus on successful product development, optimization, validation, and implementation.
- Drive scalability studies in bioreactors to ensure a seamless transition from lab-scale to large-scale production.
- Develop the application data program for Cellevat3d™ carriers, including study design, planning, lab work, data analysis, result interpretation, and report writing.
- Write scientific articles for publication, application notes, and presentation materials for conferences and events. Stay up to date with latest trends and literature in the gene and cell therapy field.
- Drive research by defining scientific hypotheses and evaluating them through experimental designs for new product formats and designs.
- Contribute to product development processes, including design control processes and procedures and participate in cross-functional discussions internally and externally.
- Provide training and hands-on support at customer sites for evaluation studies to ensure successful product development, optimization, validation, and implementation.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cell biology, or closely related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in the bioprocessing industry, with a strong focus on upstream bioprocessing applications, particularly in gene therapy and cell therapy.
- Extensive experience in process development, including application studies, cell culture and application protocol optimizations, and scale-up implementation.
- Proven hands-on experience with mammalian cell cultures in bioreactors at various scale.
- Experience in a customer-facing role, providing technical support and building strong relationships with customers.
- Knowledge and experience in viral vector production optimization is highly advantageous.
